Rebecca Marie Gomez, professionally known as Becky G, was born in Inglewood, California, to Mexican-American parents Alejandra and Francisco Gomez on March 2, 1997. She lived in Moreno Valley with her family before moving into her grandparents’ garage due to financial problems. At the young age of nine, she decided she wanted to pursue music to support her family and began to think of ways to make that happen. At that time, she was bullied at school and had to pull out to be homeschooled. Then she began to work part-time, doing commercials and voice overs.

Becky G began her acting career in the films “El Tux” (2008) and “La Estación de la Calle Olvera” (2008). She became a member of the female groups GLAM and BCG and began recording herself singing and rapping. Becky G’s YouTube videos were mostly renditions of popular songs. She taught herself to play the guitar when she was 13 years old. She eventually began writing songs with The Jam, a production crew who had listened to her music. After hearing her cover of the song ‘Otis,’ a notable producer named Dr. Luke signed her to a record deal.
