Background

Thomas William Hiddleston was born in Westminster in England’s capital, London. He has two siblings, Emma and Sarah Hiddleston. His parents are Dr. James Norman Hiddleston, who is a physical chemist and had also liaised with Oxford University as a former managing director of a biotechnology company. His mother is Diana Patricia Hiddleston, who is a former stage manager. Quite fortuitously, his sister Emma is an actress while Sarah works as a journalist in India. Hiddleston’s name is one he shares with his great-great-uncle who was a shipyard plater from a town in Scotland named Greenock and was also a member of Royal Artillery’s 51st (Highland) Division.

Before joining the Dragon School in Oxford, Hiddleston had attended boarding school at Windlesham House School when he was seven years old. Moving on to college, he went to Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge and pursued the classics. Acting was what Hiddleston wanted to do, thus he pursued his interests at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in the class of 2005. In 2007, Hiddleston narrated “The Red Necklace” by Sally Gardner, which is an audiobook. In the same year, he also guest-starred in the medical drama “Casualty,” joining a list of British actors such as Orlando Bloom who had also guest-starred in the show.

Hiddleston continued featuring in films and shows and in 2012, he stepped into his role as Loki in “The Avengers,” a villain we all secretly love. The following year, he played the same villain role in “Thor: The Dark World.” He has continued to appear in subsequent “Thor” and “The Avengers” films. In June 2021, Hiddleston’s character received his own spin-off series, “Loki.”
