National March First Day – March 1, 2025

National March First Day is celebrated on March 1 every year. This day celebrates all individuals who became the first in their families to reach a certain goal, despite challenges and adversities. From graduating from college and writing a book to buying a house and starting a family — we celebrate everyone who first made such remarkable achievements in their family. This inspiring holiday reminds everyone that any goal is achievable as long as you put your mind and heart into it. Learn more about the ways you can celebrate National March First Day today.

History of National March First Day

National March First Day was created by artist and poet Alicea Joy Davis on March 1, 2020, to celebrate family breakthroughs amid intergenerational limitations. Her goal was to fill this day with love and affection for all sons and daughters who have achieved a specific goal regardless of the challenges that were along their way.

Growing up in Detroit, Davis had had an interest in writing poetry since childhood. She decided to pursue her passion and has been a successful spoken word poet, writer, and artist for 25 years. Her artistry and creativity focus on inner healing and racial reconciliation, and her contributions to the Black community put her on the list of nine women “making Black history.” Her achievements and personal breakthroughs were unprecedented in her family after years of enduring intergenerational trauma, hence her idea of a National March First Day — a celebration of all individuals who are first to reach a certain goal in their families.

In 2008, Davis had her faith in Christ renewed after years of questioning her beliefs. It was at this moment that she attested that God helped her overcome several challenges in life and made her become a preacher of God’s word and his love for humans.

She founded March Forth – a Christian holiday dedicated to reconciliation and racial healing. Furthermore, Davis started Friends for Reconciliation Inc. (FOR), a non-profit organization with “a mission to help America reach racial reconciliation in our lifetime,” on March 4, 2019.
