Background

Upcoming American rap artist Big30 certainly knows how to make news. Born Rodney Lamont Wright Jr. on December 28, 1999, in Memphis, Tennessee, he is of African-American descent. He attended a local high school in his neighborhood with a keen interest in sports and even played little league football. His father introduced him to rap music, and it was in his teens that he began to show an inclination toward the genre. He was often in trouble during his childhood and became active in the streets when he was just 14 years old.

Big30’s career as a rap artist began in 2018 when his childhood friend Pooh Shiesty encouraged him to tell his story through rap and songs. He recorded his first song with Shiesty that year, titled ‘RC,’ which established his credibility as an artist among his friends. A few months later, he recorded another single with Shiesty, ‘Breaking News,’ and uploaded it on YouTube. The song became immensely popular, earning over 100,000 views in just a few weeks. In 2019, he signed with N-less Entertainment and Moneybagg Yo’s Bread Gang Entertainment. Later that year, he dropped his first solo song ‘No Vouch,’ which received two million views within a month of its release. He released two more singles — ‘Allegations’ and ‘Shots Out the Vette’ — which earned 49 million and 21 million YouTube views, respectively. ‘Allegations’ went on to become gold certified. In September 2021, Big30 released his first mixtape, “King of Killbranch,” which reached Number 13 on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts. That same year, he was featured in Shiesty’s single ‘Neighbors,’ which peaked at number 51 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. Later that year, he was named an artist with Interscope Records. He is working on a new, untitled album that is slated for release in 2022.

Big30 is known for his hard-hitting lyrics inspired by his neighborhood and street cred. He has been at the center of several controversies with fellow artists, including Gucci Mane, but the two later made up. Often on the wrong side of the law, he has attempted to straighten his life out and make a name for himself as a rap artist of note. With a vision to win a Grammy Award, Big30 is working hard to achieve his dreams.
