Anil Kapoor

Background

Anil Surinder Kapoor, born to a Punjabi Hindu family on December 24, 1956, in Chembur, is an Indian actor and film producer whose talents and gorgeous looks have earned him global recognition, fame, and success. His parents are Nirmal Kapoor and film producer Surinder Kapoor, and he has grown up in a family of actors and film producers. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School in Chembur, East Mumbai. He also went to St. Xavier’s College in Fort, South Mumbai.

Kapoor made his debut film appearance in 1970 in “Tu Payal Mein Geet.” His Hindi film debut was in “Hamare Tumhare” (1979) and in 1980, he landed the lead role in “Vamsa Vruksham.” The actor made his Kannada film debut in “Pallavi Anu Pallavi” (1983). Kapoor gained recognition in Bollywood with “Mashaal” (1984), for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1986, he appeared in “Karma,” and in 1987, he earned a title role in “Mr. India,” which was a huge box-office hit that propelled him to superstar status. Several high-grossing movies later and Kapoor starred in the critically acclaimed “Pukar” (2000). The actor made his debut as a film producer in 2002 called “Badhaai Ho Badhaai” and later produced “Gandhi, My Father” (2007), which won several awards. In 2008, Kapoor played a supporting role in “Slumdog Millionaire.” This film raked in $352 million worldwide and won four Golden Globe Awards at the 66th Golden Globes. In 2010, Kapoor starred in the eighth season of the American series, “24.”
