Zara Maria Larsson, famously known as Zara Larsson, was born in Stockholm, Sweden, to Agnetha and Anders Larsson. She has a younger sister by the name Hanna Larsson, with whom she grew up singing together. She was approached by a music school but refused their offer because she wanted to become a solo artist and not sing in a choir. Larsson also didn’t receive any vocal training, instead, she trained herself by listening to famous artists like Beyonce.

The record label Ten Music Group signed Larsson and this marked the start of her career as a musician. Shortly after being signed by the label, she started working on her E.P. which was released in 2013 with the first single peaking on numerous music charts. Universal Music Sweden certified her E.P. triple platinum and shortly after this she signed a recording deal with U.S. label Epic Records. The brand helped release her debut album in 2014 and by the end of that year, she went on the “I Wish Tour,” accompanying Cher Lloyd. Her second album was then launched in 2017. She was nominated for several awards, including Best Swedish Star at the Kids Choice Awards. In 2017, however, she managed to bag the Artist of the Year award at the Grammys.

Larsson has been linked with Justin Bieber once, and again with Niall Horans. She dismissed these claims saying that she was single and an activist, protesting against gender inequality and racism.
