Background

Theodore Peter James Kinnaird Taptiklis, also known as Theo James, has become a household name in the entertainment industry. His superior acting talent and attractive personality have won the hearts of millions around the world. James was born in High Wycombe, England, on December 16, 1984. He received tutelage at Aylesbury Grammar School and holds a degree in philosophy from the University of Nottingham. He received formal training in acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

James started his career in 2010 with a role in the series “A Passionate Woman.” He also got featured in the first season of “Downton Abbey” where he played the character of Kemal Pamuk, a Turkish diplomat. He also starred in “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” while still in drama school. As a result of his early successes, he was named “Star of Tomorrow” by Screen International in 2009. In 2011, James landed his first leading role in the horror series “Bedlam” where he played the character of Jed Harper. He also featured as James in “The Inbetweeners Movie.” In 2012, he starred in “Room at the Top,” a T.V. mini-series, playing Jack Whales, and in “Case Sensitive” as Aiden. Some other movies he starred in include “Underworld: Awakening,” “Golden Boy,” and “The Domino Effect.” James had his big break in 2014 as he portrayed the character of Tobias “Four” Eaton in the movie “Divergent,” a role he reprised in “Insurgent” and “Allegiant,” the two sequels in the “Divergent” film series. In 2018, James starred in the movie “Backstabbing for Beginners,” which he also executive produced. He was also featured in “How It Ends,” where he played Will Younger. In 2019, James starred in the movie “Sanditon,” which he executive produced as well. In 2020, he appeared as the time traveler in “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” the T.V. adaptation of the 2003 novel.

James is married to Ruth Kearney, an Irish actress whom he met while at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
