Comey left his job at the Department of Justice in 2005 to become general counsel for Lockheed Martin Corporation, the largest defense contractor, and left in 2010 to serve as general counsel at Bridgewater Associates, the then-largest hedge fund. He held that job until 2013 when he was sworn in as the seventh director of the F.B.I., a job he held until 2017.
