Background

When we think of a modern portrayal of Princess Diana, we think of Emma Corrin in “The Crown.” The part on the Netflix series was her breakout role, but Corrin’s start in show business wasn’t easy. Corrin was born on December 13, 1995, in Royal Tunbridge Wells in England to parents Chris Corrin, a businessman, and Dr. Juliette Corrin, a child speech therapist. Her first acting role was that of Toad in a school production of “The Wind in the Willows.” Perhaps it’s because she was a Sagitarrius, but she loved the stage from the start. Educated at a private Catholic school in Surrey, Corrin led a relatively privileged life with her younger brothers, Richard and Jonty.

At the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Corrin took a Shakespeare course before moving on to St. John’s College, Cambridge. Here she studied education and English and continued to pursue her interest in theater. As a member of the Cambridge Footlights theater group, she acted in 20 plays, honing her acting skills on stage. Corrin’s first film was “Cesare” in 2017, a short digital video about discovering yourself and places. A year later, she appeared in “Alex’s Dream,” a short comedy film, followed by a minor role in the T.V. series “Grantchester” and the Batman prequel T.V. series “Pennyworth,” both in 2019.

It was in the year 2020 when Corrin’s star began to shine. She starred in the comedy film “Misbehavior” alongside Keira Knightley and got cast as Princess Diana in the Netflix series “The Crown.” She appeared in eight episodes of the popular series, and the role catapulted her to mainstream stardom. A year later, Corrin acted in the theatrical play “Anna X” and starred in an episode of the T.V. series “Ten Percent.” In 2022, Corrin will appear in the films “My Policeman” and the mini T.V. series “Retreat,” and will play the lead role of Lady Constance Chatterley in the film adaptation of “Lady Chatterley’s Lover.”

Corrin came out as queer in 2021 and is identified by the pronouns ‘they/them’ on her Instagram account. Since coming out, she’s been a vocal community member, using her platform to speak about gender-queer issues from the perspective of an actress and a celebrity with the power to influence the conversation. Corrin has stated that she’s still on a journey of self-discovery and defining her gender sexuality.
