Matt Ox was a name you couldn’t escape in 2017. His overnight success after the release of his song ‘Overwhelming’ catapulted him from the corners of Soundcloud to the mainstream audience of hip-hop fans. At first glance, Ox seemed like another suburban kid playing at being a gangster. But behind the carefully crafted persona was a gifted artist with lyrical skills far beyond most people his age.

Born on December 13, 2004, Ox grew up in Lawncrest, Philadelphia, with his mother and aunts. He learned the basics of music production from his uncle, who owned a small recording studio, and practiced using his mother’s laptop. One of his first singles uploaded to Soundcloud caught the attention of artist F1lthy, who became his manager and introduced him to his crew named Working on Dying.

His next single, ‘Low Key,’ was a massive success for the Working on Dying Soundcloud channel, again attracting the attention of other artists and rappers on the platform. He decided to strike while the iron was hot, dropping ‘Michael Myers,’ which garnered over 500,000 plays within a few weeks of uploading. As his brand continued to grow, he kept pushing, producing more and better content at a higher frequency. The YouTube music video for ‘This N That’ drew millions of views. He became known in the hip-hop industry and received offers from established rappers like Chief Keef and XXXTentacion.

As industry heads took notice, so did the press. Publications from “XXL,” “The New York Times,” and “Mashable” further increased his fame and reach. He continues to make music and release singles. He also designs and sells merchandise through the official website of Working on Dying.
