Donny Osmond was born in Ogden, Utah on December 9, 1957. He was the seventh son of George Virl Osmond and Olive May. He has eight siblings in total. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in his childhood. His family origins go back to Wales’ Merthyr Tydfil. Osmond also had his own ham radio license in his youth, namely, KA7EVD.

Osmond debuted in 1963 on “The Andy Williams Show,” singing “You Are My Sunshine.” He became a teen icon in the 1970s as a solo artist after his success as part of the “Osmonds.” He was one of the major “Cover Boy” stars for none other than the “Tiger Beat” and “16” magazines during this period. His first hit came in 1971, which was a cover of “Sweet and Innocent” by Roy Orbison, hitting number seven in the U.S. He followed it up with hits like ‘Go Away Little Girl,’ ‘Puppy Love,’ which attained a number three ranking in the U.S., and ‘Hey Girl/I Knew You When,’ which hit U.S. number nine in 1972. It got him global fame, adorned by his appearance on “Here’s Lucy,” the acclaimed show. Osmond had multiple cameos and appearances in other tracks like ‘Runaway’ and ‘Ambitious.’ He came back to the U.S. charts ranking at number two in the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Soldier of Love’ and then ‘Sacred Emotion.’ Osmond released his Christmas album in the 2000s while returning to the U.K. Top 10 with ‘Breeze On By,’ hitting number 8 on the charts. His 17th solo album, “The Soundtrack of My Life,” had a collection of cover songs special to him. Stevie Wonder played the harmonica on this album for ‘My Cherie Amour.’ He also teamed up with Marie for a residency at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas. He hosted “The Mike Douglas Show” in 1974 along with “The Donny & Marie Show,” which aired between 1976 and 1979. They also hosted the syndicated talk show “Donny & Marie” between 1998 and 2000. He also hosted his own radio show while hosting “Pyramid” between 2002 and 2004.

Osmond married Debra (nee Glenn) from Billings, Montana, at the Salt Lake Temple. They have five sons: Don, Christopher, Jeremy, Joshua, and Brandon. They first became grandparents in 2005 and have twelve grandchildren in all.
