Conan Gray

Background

Conan Gray was born on December 5, 1998, in Lemon Grove, California. His father is of Irish ancestry, and his mother is Japanese. Right after he was born, Gray’s family moved to Hiroshima, Japan, to care for his grandfather, who was dealing with health issues. After two years in Japan, his family came back to the U.S. The pop singer was able to speak Japanese fluently, but he lost his proficiency over the years. When Gray was three, his parents divorced; the artist took it really hard, and he sings about his parent’s divorce in one of his songs. Gray moved 12 times while growing up due to his father’s job in the military. When Gray was a teen, he finally settled in Georgetown, Texas. After finishing high school, Gray was accepted at UCLA, and he moved to Los Angeles.

In 2013, Gray created a YouTube channel and started uploading videos. He mostly posted vlogs about his early life, music covers, and some original songs. Among his musical influences, Gray mentions Taylor Swift, Landa Del Rey, and Lorde. In 2017, Gray released two singles on Spotify, ‘Idle Town’ and ‘Grow.’ Both singles rapidly gained millions of listeners on Spotify. Gray’s fame on YouTube and his incredible success on Spotify led him to sign a record deal with Republic Records in 2018. In November 2018, he released his debut EP, “Sunset Season.” Gray’s debut studio album, “Kid Krow,” was released in 2020, and it reached the top 5 in the U.S. Billboard 200. Gray is working on his second studio album, “Superache.”

Gray has never officially dated anybody. Still, the artist claims he has felt heartbreak and love, feelings that help him write the lyrics of his amazing songs.
