Charlie Puth

Background

Charles Otto Puth Jr. was born on December 2, 1991, in Rumson, New Jersey, to Debra and Charles Otto Puth Sr. His mother, who was a music teacher, started introducing him to classical music at an early age. By the age of 10, the young Puth was already studying jazz. He participated in a summer youth jazz ensemble as well as played in a production by Charlie Brown. By the time he was in the sixth grade, Puth knew that he was going to be involved in the music industry as he went door-to-door selling a Christmas album called “Have a Very Charlie Christmas.” He was so talented that he recorded and produced the whole thing. Puth managed to earn $600 from selling that specific album. Once he graduated high school, Puth attended Berklee College of Music studying music production and engineering.

While pursuing his career in music, Puth started a YouTube channel called “CharliesVlogs” which contained song covers with comedic videos (2009). The turning point of his career soon came when he caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres who signed him to her record label, eleveneleven. He started gaining fans all over the world. Later, he released his first song ‘Marvin Gaye’ which featured Meghan Trainor (2015). The number topped the charts in many countries including Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the U.K. Around that time, another one of his most successful singles was ‘See You Again’ which featured Wiz Khalifa and was included in the “Furious 7” official soundtrack. Puth’s debut album “Nine Track Mind” was later released (2016). It received negative reviews but still managed to perform commercially well with various chart-topping singles. He also then released another album named “Voicenotes” which contained the lead single ‘Attention’ (2018). Currently, Puth is rolling out his third studio album named “Charlie” which will be released in 2022. He has already released two singles including “Light Switch” and “That’s Hilarious” (2022).

Puth has been pretty open about his personal life. He has revealed that he faced bullying in school and even suffered a nervous breakdown backstage at the “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” show due to being overworked and realizing that he no longer has privacy in his personal life. He grasped, however, that music could be his therapy. Puth also has had a partnership with Hollister Co. since 2017. There’s no definite information on who he has dated but accounts have said that his dating history includes celebrities such as Pritika Swarup, Meghan Trainor, and Hailee Steinfield.
