Anna Faris

Background

Anna Faris was born on November 29, 1976, in Baltimore, Maryland to parents Jack Faris, a sociology professor, and Karen Faris, a special education teacher. When she was young, her family relocated to Edmonds, Washington. Three years later, when Faris was nine, she delivered her first major acting performance in a one-act play called “Danger: Memory!” She landed her first professional role in a T.V. commercial for frozen yogurt while in high school. In 1994, she graduated from high school and enrolled at the University of Washington, where her father worked as vice president of internal communications. She graduated five years later with a degree in English literature.

The initial plan was for Faris to move to London, where a receptionist job was waiting for her. Instead, she decided to stick around. Faris lived in a studio apartment at The Ravenswood in Hancock Park. Her decision paid off when she began landing small roles in made-for-T.V. movies like “Deception.” Shortly after, she was cast in a supporting role in the drama “Eden.” Her first major role was when she played an ill-fated cheerleader in the slasher film “Lovers Lane.”

Faris’ breakout role came when she starred in the popular horror-comedy film “Scary Movie.” She portrayed the character Cindy Campbell. This role marked her first starring credit, and it turned out to be a major commercial success, ranking among the top movies at the Box Office. It managed to rake in $42 million opening weekend gross.
