Background

William “Chase” Elliott II, born on November 28, 1995, is a professional American race car driver competing in the NASCAR Cup Series. He is the son of Bill Elliott, the 1988 Winston Cup Series champion. They are only one of three father-son champions of the NASCAR Cup Series.

On July 13, 2009, Elliott was featured as a potential star by ‘Sports Illustrated.’ He won 12 of 40 races over a year in 2010. In late 2011, he won the Snowball Derby. In February 2011, he signed a three-year contract with Hendrick Motorsports and in 2012 won the K&N Pro Sport. Elliott is also the youngest winner in ARCA superspeedway history, which he won on June 8, 2013. He won America’s four largest short track races in 2013. ARCA allows young drivers to race to gain experience before joining NASCAR. He was announced to compete in the NASCAR World Truck Series in 2013 for Hendrick Motorsports. This would be his first win at the NASCAR pole position to become the youngest pole-sitter in truck history. In 2016, he joined the Sprint Cup Series and won the 2016 Rookie of the Year. He is the youngest Daytona 500 pole-sitter in history, having won the pole on his debut. He opened the 2017 season by winning the Daytona 500 again and he still won his first Can-Am Duel race. In October, he had a chance to win but could not pass Ryan Newman. At Martinsville, he lost a chance to win when he was hit from behind while leading the race. He later got an apology through Twitter. In 2018, he won his second Can-Am Duel to qualify for the Daytona 500. In the same year, Hendrick Motorsports switched his car number from 24 to 9, which his father used for most of his career. On October 7, he got his second victory and qualified for the playoffs. He was eliminated because of a crash in the eighth round and finished the season sixth. In 2019, he qualified 18th for Daytona but got caught in a wreck and finished 17th. At Talladega, he had his first win of the season. He failed to qualify for the championship after crashing and finishing 39th. In July 2020, he won the all-star race after winning the first two stages and dominating the last stage. At 24, he won the championship, becoming the second-youngest driver to do so. For the fourth year in a row, he won the most popular driver in 2021.

Elliott has voiced a character on Nickelodeon’s “Blaze and the Monster Machines” as well as making an appearance on television like “The Dude Perfect Show.” A documentary was made with him as the main subject that takes a deep look into his career. He was also a Fox NASCAR analyst for the Xfinity Series race.
