Background

Carl Terrell Mitchell, known by his stage name Twista, was born on November 27, 1973, and grew up in the K-Town neighborhood of West Garfield Park on Chicago’s West Side. He started rapping when he was 12 years old.

Twista’s first album, “Runnin’ Off at da Mouth” was released in 1992 when he still used his former stage name, Tung Twista. Twista got signed with Big Beat and Atlantic in the summer of 1997 and released the album “Adrenaline Rush” after his second album, “Resurrection” was released only in Chicago due to marketing issues. Twista reappeared a year later, teaming up with other Chicago area rappers to form the Speedknot Mobstaz and released “Mobstability” as their first album.

He recorded another album “Kamikaze” alongside Ludacris, Jay-Z, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and others in the fall of 2002 but was not released until early 2004 and immediately charted on the Billboard 200, riding the wave of his number one smash single ‘Slow Jamz.’ Following the launching of his record label, Get Money Gang Entertainment in 2008, he released the album “Category F5” in 2009. The next year saw the release of “The Perfect Storm,” which included Chris Brown and Tia London as special guests. In 2014, Twista released another album, titled “The Dark Horse.”
