Katie Cassidy

Background

Katie Cassidy was born in Los Angeles, California to parents David Cassidy and model Sherry Williams, though the two were never married. She was born into a prominent family in Hollywood on her father’s side. Cassidy was raised by her mother and stepfather, Richard Benedon, and grew up without her father. She graduated from Calabasas High School and was a competitive cheerleader.

In 2003 we saw Cassidy make her acting debut on an episode of Lifetime’s television show “The Division.” She continued to appear in minor roles on television shows like “New Girl” and “Listen Up.” In 2005, she got cast in a recurring role in “7th Heaven” for four episodes. The following year, Cassidy made her film debut in a horror film called “When a Stranger Calls,” playing the role of Tiffany Madison. That same year, she was cast as Kelli Presley in “Black Christmas.” adding to Cassidy’s image as a scream queen. In 2007, she was cast to play the role of Ruby in the third season of “Supernatural” and appeared in six episodes — she was replaced in the following season. Cassidy went on to have a few notable television roles like Trish Wellington in “Harper’s Island,” Ella Simms in “Melrose Place,” and Juliet Sharp in “Gossip Girl.” Cassidy’s breakthrough role, though, came in the form of Laurel Lance/Black Canary in CW’s Arrowverse. Her character was a regular feature of “Arrow.”

Cassidy got married to Matthew Rodgers in 2018 but broke up in 2020 when she filed for a divorce. The latter was finalized in 2021 and Cassidy has been single since.
