Natalie Marie Nelson, more commonly known as Eva Marie, was born on September 19, 1984, in the San Francisco Bay Area in the suburb of Walnut Creek, California. She is the youngest child of Italian father Barry and Mexican mother Josie Nelson. She has three older brothers named Nathan, Neal, and Nick. She spent her early years as a child being raised in Concord, California. When she was a child, she wanted to become a professional soccer player, although in 2002 she suffered an ankle injury in her senior year of high school. She recovered and continued playing as a striker at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California, where she got her associate degree in art.

She received Junior College All-American honors and was transferred to Arizona State University, where self-doubt sadly led her to stop playing soccer. After this, she transferred to California State University, Fullerton, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in business management and a minor in human resources.

After her studies, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in modeling, acting, and promotional work. This is when she came across a casting call for the W.W.E. by chance, and after impressing the talent scouts, she achieved a four-week tryout period. After this, she officially moved to Orlando, Florida to begin her training at the company’s Performance Center. In May 2013, she joined the “Total Divas” W.W.E reality T.V. show. She then dyed her hair red and adopted her ring name, Eva Marie. After trials and tribulations with W.W.E., she left her contract in 2017, and although she briefly returned in 2020 and 2021, she is not signed with the W.W.E. anymore.
