George Kenneth Griffey Jr. was born on November 21, 1969. He attended Archbishop Moeller High School and played baseball extensively as a student over there. He was chosen in 1987 by the Seattle Mariners in the M.L.B. Amateur Draft. He joined the Bellingham Mariners in the Northwest League in 1987 and San Bernardino Spirit in 1988. Griffey was promoted in the season to the Vermont Mariners.

He played for the Seattle Mariners between 1989 and 1999. Griffey became one of the most accomplished players, with 1,752 hits, 1,152 R.B.I., 398 home runs, and 167 stolen bases. He was the M.V.P. in 1997 and was the leading home run hitter for four seasons. His batting average stayed at 297 as well. He joined the Cincinnati Reds in 2000 and stayed here till 2008, wearing number 30, which was once worn by his father for the same team. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 2008 and came back to the Mariners in 2009, where he stayed until 2010. He also worked with the Mariners as a consultant since 2011.
