Yugyeom made his debut as a member of Got7 in 2014. He’s also half of its duo subunit Jus2! Despite being born in Seoul, Kim spent a little of his childhood in Saudi Arabia due to his dad’s job. The family later moved to Yeosu and then Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, where he grew up alongside his older brother. In February 2016, he graduated from Hanlim Multi Art School and enrolled in Daekyeung University’s Model Department. His mom initially didn’t want him to become an idol and wanted him to be a normal student like everyone else, but he insisted on her giving him a chance.

Yugyeom began dreaming of becoming a singer and a dancer when he discovered Big Bang and J.Y. Park when he was little. Yugyeom developed an interest in dancing and joined the Body and Soul crew when he was 14. During this time, he participated in a national competition known as Adrenaline House Dance Battle and he emerged second. Yugyeom went on to take part in a tournament where he danced to the song ‘Beast’s Shock.’ His elder brother filmed Yugyeom’s dance moves and then sent them to Cyworld. The footage led to his being invited to join the dance school owned by Kim’s cousin where another teacher, who was a dance instructor at JYP Entertainment, took an interest and helped him audition for the label. It was in 2011 that Yugyeom became a trainee.

He is a foodie
Yugyeom loves to eat! His favorite food is samgyeopsal which is basically grilled pork belly. He also loves kimbap which is the Korean version of sushi and bulgogi which is marinated beef that is then grilled and not forgetting chicken.
He is resilient
Initially, Yugyeom’s mum did not want him to become an idol. He, however, did not let this discourage him and he kept working at getting better. Today she fully supports his career choice.
Formal and informal
The members said that before the debut of GOT7, Yugyeom was a very kind person, and always spoke very formally and respectfully as he's the youngest member of the group. But now some stuff has changed, now he speaks somewhat informal.
