Background

Jeffree Star is an American entrepreneur and former singer. Most people know him as a makeup artist. He is the founder of Jeffree Star Cosmetics. Star was born on November 15, 1985, and was raised in Orange County, California. When he was young, he started experimenting with his mother’s makeup and finally convinced her to let him wear it to school. Star attended Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, California, and graduated in 2002. Several months later, he changed his legal name to ‘Jeffree Star’ and relocated to Los Angeles. He started supporting himself with part-time modeling and makeup and music gigs. Star recalls that he would use a fake I.D. to attend Hollywood clubs where celebrities would hire him as their makeup artist.

Star began his music career when he befriended Peaches’ drummer, Samantha Maloney, who encouraged him to make music. In 2007, Star was advertised as part of the “True Colors” tour. They traveled through 15 cities in the U.S.

In 2009, Star released a studio album titled “Beauty Killer.” One of the songs on the album was ‘Lollipop Luxury,’ which featured Nicki Minaj. This album peaked at number seven on the U.S. Billboard Top Electronic Albums. He spent the year traveling to promote his music. One year later, he signed to Konvict Muzik but left the music industry due to legal issues. In November 2014, Star founded his own cosmetic company, called Jeffree Star Cosmetics. In 2018, “Forbes” ranked Star as the fifth-highest paid YouTuber of the year, having earned $18 million from his YouTube endeavors.
