Background
Torrence Ivy Hatch, Jr. (Boosie BadAzz), was born in Louisiana. He was raised by his father, Torrence Hatch, Sr., who was a pastor and died in 1997, and his mother, Connie Hatch, a school principal. Boosie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a child. His cousin, Young Dee, saw his potential when he entered his teenage years and began tagging him to events. He introduced Boosie to Baton Rouge rapper C-Loc in the 1990s. Young Bleed, C-Loc, and MD mentored Boosie and taught him the ways of the industry. In 1998, they finally allowed him to join Concentration Camp as the group’s youngest member. The group consisted of C-Loc, Young Bleed, Lucky Knuckles, J-Von, Lee Tyme, Max Minelli, Boo, and Happy Perez.
Two years later, Boosie debuted on C-Loc’s fifth album, “It’s a Gamble,” and Concentration Camp’s third studio album, “Camp III: Thug Brothas.” Young Bleed left the group, and Boosie replaced him, taking up a huge responsibility. When Boosie was 17, he recorded his debut album, “Youngest of da Camp.” Happy Perez handled the production tasks. The album featured C-Loc, Donkey, and Max Minelli.
Boosie joined Trill Entertainment in 2001 when Pimp C was the CEO. Two years later, he collaborated with Webbie on an album titled “Ghetto Stories.” The duo came back together in 2004 and worked on another project, “Trill Azz Mixtape Vol. 1.” In the same year, Boosie released “Trill Azz Mixes II.” His hard work eventually caught the eye of a Universal Music Group representative.
