Background

Julia Carin Cavazos, or Julia Michaels, as she is known professionally, was born on November 13, 1993, in Davenport, Iowa, the United States, to an actor father of Puerto Rican-Mexican ethnicity. At the age of 19, she became acquainted with Robbins, with whom she collaborated on songs that were performed by the likes of Lovato and Fifth Harmony. Her father changed his birth name to Juan Manuel Cavazos, to sound less Hispanic, while her mother’s name is Julie Scriven. She has an older sister, Jaden, who is also a singer and songwriter.

Some of the musicians who inspired her are: Fiona Apple, Lisa Mitchell, Laura Marling, Missy Higgins, Paramore, Juliet Simms, Sarah Blasko, and The Fray. Michaels also worked with Justin Tranter, who eventually became her writing partner. She has been working in the music industry since the age of 16. She released her self-titled debut extended play, “Nervous System,” in 2010. She has released five E.P.s and 25 singles.

Michaels was also nominated for the M.T.V. Music Video Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards, to name a few. For the cheesy comedy series “Girls” on H.B.O., she recorded the song ‘How Do We Get Back to Love,’ which was released in April 2017. She released “Nervous System,” her third E.P. overall and the first on a big label, in July 2017. The majority of the music on the E.P. was written by her and Tranter. They also wrote the song ‘Friends,’ which Justin Bieber and BloodPop later sang. She was the star of the Nervous System Tour in 2017 and Shawn Mendes’ opening act for the Oceania leg of his Illuminate World Tour. She is in a relationship with the Canadian singer-songwriter, JP Saxe.
