xQc

Background

Felix Lengyel, popularly known as xQc, was born, in Quebec, Canada, on November 12, 1995. He is of Hungarian descent. xQc began streaming on Twitch when he was 19 years old. His current name is a combination of the last letter of his first name, ‘X,’ and the abbreviation ‘QC,’ which stands for ‘Quebec.’ Later, when he switched to playing Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch in 2016, he would append the game’s abbreviations to the end of his aliases, such as ‘x.Q.c.L.o.L.’ for League of Legends and ‘x.Q.c.O.W.’ for Overwatch.

xQc’s esports career began when he started playing for teams in small online tournaments. He eventually was picked by the multi-game esports organization Denial Esports. When Denial disbanded, some team members continued to play together and decided to compete in Season Zero of Overwatch Contenders. From this point on, xQc’s competitive streak increased to unhealthy levels where he would obsessively focus on his performance and rankings. He prioritized playing over family, friends, and even eating and sleeping.

He played for Team Canada in the 2017 Overwatch World Cup campaign and was named the event’s most valuable player. In October of the same year, xQc got signed to Dallas Fuel of the Overwatch League (OWL). His time with Dallas Fuel was wracked with controversy and suspensions. He received four suspensions and two fines for $2000 and $4000. He received the first two suspensions before the season started for misusing the game’s reporting software and throwing games on stream. He made his debut in January 2018 but was benched and fined following the third match for making homophobic remarks on his Twitch stream. After being fined and suspended again in March, he got released from the team. In the years that followed, xQc joined several Overwatch teams and participated in the 2018 and 2019 Overwatch World Cups as a member of Team Canada. In March 2020, xQc began to play chess on stream and participated in the first edition of PogChamps, a chess tournament created by Twitch and Chess.com.
