Neil Percival Young was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on November 12, 1945, to Scott Alexander Young and Edna Blow Ragland. Robert ‘Bob’ Young, his older brother. He was drawn to music genres such as rock ‘n’ roll, country, and western pop when he was 10. He began playing the ukulele after being influenced by a variety of musical groups. When he was 12, his mother filed for divorce. He moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to live with his mother after the divorce. He started his first band, The Jades, with Ken Koblun, John Daniel, David Gregg, and Jim Atkin when he was in Earl Grey Junior High School, and he founded another band, The Squires, with Ken Koblun, Jeff Wuckert, and Bill Edmondson when he was in Kelvin High School in 1963.

With the band, The Guess Who, he released his first hit song, ‘Flying on the Ground is Wrong.’ Young became a member of The Mynah Birds band led by singer Rick James. The band signed a deal with the Motown label and disbanded after Rick’s arrest. He moved to Los Angeles and created the band Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills. In 1966, they published the album “Buffalo Springfield,” which became a commercial success. Before disbanding, the band recorded two more albums. He also formed a band called Crazy Horse and released the album “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere,” which became a hit. After a while, he left the band but continued to collaborate with them in the following years. He eventually reconnected with Stephen Stills and formed the band CSN&Y. In 1969 the band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. On July 4, 2017, he released the song ‘Children of Destiny.’ He also released a soundtrack album for the film “Paradox,” directed by Daryl Hannah. In 2009, his band recorded the album “Colorado.” He has released more than 40 studio albums to date. He has been in several live recordings, tours, and performances all around the world. Throughout his career, he has worked with a variety of bands. He directed and co-directed many films under the pseudonym ‘Bernard Shakey,’ including “Journey Through the Past” (1973,) “Human Highway” (1982,) and “CSNY/Déjà Vu” (2008).
