Background
Actor-comedian Tracy Morgan was born on November 10, 1968, in the Bronx, New York City, as Tracy Jamal Morgan. He had a rough childhood and faced the deaths of two people close to his heart; his father, Jimmy Morgan, Sr., of AIDS in November 1987; and his best friend who was murdered. He used to seek solace from his tumultuous life by doing humor and he started doing stand-up comedy.
Morgan performed at Harlem’s Apollo Theater and in the Uptown Comedy Club before being recruited to star as Hustle Man in Martin Lawrence’s sitcom “Martin” from 1994 to 1996. When he departed from the show, he joined the cast of the popular sketch-comedy “Saturday Night Live” and remained on the show for the next seven years. After leaving “S.N.L.” in 2003, Morgan hosted his own show, “The Tracy Morgan Show,” which was unfortunately canceled after only one season. In 2006, he landed a part in the NBC television show “30 Rock,” which was created by fellow “S.N.L.” cast member Tina Fey. His character, Tracy Jordan, based loosely on the comedian himself, successfully won him an Emmy nomination for the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In addition to his small screen works, Morgan also starred in several films.
Morgan was married to his high school sweetheart, Sabina, from 1985 to 2009 and they are parents to three sons. After filing for divorce in 2009, in September 2011, Morgan announced his engagement to model Megan Wollover, and in July 2013, they welcomed a daughter, Maven Sonae Morgan, into the world. The couple married in 2015 and divorced after five years of marriage.
