Background

Lorde was born in Auckland, New Zealand, as Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor. She was born to Sonja Yelich, a poet mother, and Vic O’Connor, a civil engineer father. She has three siblings, Jerry and India, her sisters, and Angelo, her brother. Lorde went to Vauxhall School and Belmont Intermediate School. She worked on her music career while at Takapuna Grammar School from 2010 through 2013.

From an early age, she started to dedicate her life to music, winning a contest at Belmont Intermediate School with her friend, Louis McDonald. In 2009, she signed with Universal Music Group (U.M.G.) and gave live performances at numerous venues with Louis McDonald. She was later introduced to Joel Little, after several vocal lessons, and the pair worked together recording “Love Club,” an E.P. It featured her most famous song, ‘Royals,’ which earned them an audience and went global, reaching the top 10 lists on the charts. In 2016, she collaborated with Jack Antonoff and Bleachers to materialize her album “Melodrama.” Later in 2018, the album took home the Album of the Year Award at the Grammys and Lorde toured the world with Tove Styrke, Mitski, and Run the Jewels to promote “Melodrama.” While retreating from the spotlight, Lorde released a photography book of her visit to Antarctica titled “Going South.”
