Born on September 13, 1996, in Riverdale, Georgia, Carti is of African-American descent and a Virgo by design. He was raised in Fairburn, Georgia, and attended North Springs Charter High School. Although he skipped classes regularly to either go to his job or work on his music, Carti graduated by a close margin. He started rapping as ‘Sir Carter’ in 2011 and changed his name to Playboi Carti in 2013.

By 2011, Carti began uploading songs to SoundCloud. He signed to Awful Records in 2014. He soon decided to pursue music full-time and moved to New York with his family. While living there, he got acquainted with ASAP Rocky, with whom he later moved to Texas.
