Keith Lionel Urban grew up in Australia after being born in New Zealand. His parents instilled in him an appreciation for American country music. He was given a ukulele at the age of four and a guitar at six after expressing an early interest in music. Urban’s early influences matched his parents’ tastes in country music, which he grew up listening to. Urban had won several talent events before joining a country band as a teenager. During those formative years, his unique style — a combination of rock guitar and country sound — emerged. In 1991, he released his first hit album in his home country of Australia before moving to Nashville.

This set the stage for a career that included top-selling albums such as “Defying Gravity” and “Fuse,” as well as Grammy, Country Music Association, and Academy of Country Music awards. Urban was also picked as a judge for season 12 of the iconic singing show “American Idol,” where he remained until the show’s original run ended in 2016. In 2018, Urban released his latest studio project — “Graffiti U.” ‘Female,’ ‘Parallel Line,’ ‘Coming Home,’ and ‘Never Comin Down’ were among the album’s four singles, and it received a C.M.A. nomination for Album of the Year. In May 2018, the musician released his most recent track, ‘We Were.’ Beginning on April 28, 2022, The Speed of Now Tour has been wreaking havoc on American and Canadian venues, with North American concerts stretching until December 17.

In June 2006, Urban came back to Australia to marry actress Nicole Kidman. Their 16-year marriage has produced two daughters — Sunday Rose Kidman Urban (14) and Faith Margaret Kidman Urban (12)
