Jeon Hee-Jin

Background

Jeon Hee-Jin was born in Daejeon, South Korea, on October 19, 2000. She is the youngest of three girls in her family. In Chungnam, South Korea, she attended Incheon Hambak Elementary School and Saint Paul Girls’ Middle School. She spent a month in Brazil at some time during her childhood. When HeeJin was in middle school, she wanted to be a singer. Both her sisters had similar dreams at one point, but they didn’t pursue them. Hee-Jin has said that one of the reasons she became a singer was to fulfill both her sisters’ dreams. She regards them as her most ardent supporters.

HeeJin traveled long distances to attend a dance academy, pursuing her dreams. After she was rejected from 20 separate auditions, her father lost faith in her becoming a singer. But in 2015, she was cast as a trainee by BlockBerryCreative through social media. She went through a year of training before she was chosen as the first member of the agency’s then-forthcoming female group. On September 25, 2016, a video teaser named “LOONA’s 1st Member ‘HeeJin’ SeoulTeaser” with promotional posters of HeeJin on the streets of Seoul was posted on YouTube. She debuted as a member of the girl group LOONA after releasing her solo single album “HeeJin” on October 5, 2016. On October 2, a video teaser titled “Paris” was published on YouTube to promote the acoustic mix of “ViViD,” which features HeeJin and was shot in Paris.

On November 10, 2016, HeeJin appeared in an alternate version of HyunJin’s “Around You” music video. She also collaborated with HyunJin on the song ‘I’ll Be There,’ which was featured on HyunJin’s debut single. On December 15, HeeJin, HyunJin, and HaSeul released ‘The Carol’ as a tune on HaSeul’s debut single. HeeJin is the only member who does not have a “Who’s Next Girl?” teaser image; as the first member, she did not need one. On August 20, 2018, she made her debut as a member of LOONA with the release of their first mini-album, “++.” Hee-Jin, along with many other idols, performed as a pitcher in a clip for M.B.C.’s “2019 Idol Star Athletics Championships — Chuseok Special” on September 4.
