Jared Goff

Background

Jared Thomas Goff is an American football player whose skills have set him apart from other athletes. He was born in San Rafael, California on October 14, 1994. His father, Jerry Goff, was a former Major League Baseball player. Goff graduated from Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield, California in 2013. He received several college scholarships but chose the University of California in Berkeley. He was named starting quarterback on the team in the 2013 season. He set 26 records in the university and decided to forgo his senior season and enter the 2016 N.F.L. draft.

In the 2016 N.F.L. draft, Goff was selected as the first overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams. In June, he signed a four-year contract worth $27.9 million, which included a signing bonus worth $18.6 million. He was named the Rams’ starting quarterback in November. In the 2017 season with new head coach Sean McVay, Goff recorded his first professional victory. In January 2018, he played in his first playoff game. Although the Rams lost to the Atlanta Falcons, Goff completed 24-of-45 passes. A few weeks later, he was named to his first Pro Bowl as a replacement for Carson Wentz. In the 2018 season, Goff threw his career-high 465 yards against the Minnesota Vikings. He got selected to his second Pro Bowl for his performance. Goff led the Rams to the N.F.C. Championship victory against the New Orleans Saints. In April 2019, the Rams extended Goff’s contract by four years in a deal worth $134 million. After a successful 2020 season, Goff got traded to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford. He made his Lions debut in the first week of the 2021 season.
