Timothy Jason Plato is a British race driver. He’s a Libra, born on October 14, 1967, in Oxford, Oxfordshire in England. Plato is of English descent and attended Chillingham Road Primary School. He received a high school education from King’s School, Tynemouth.
Plato started with kart racing. He earned success in the sport and achieved a British Championship win in 1989. Plato then went into Formula Three racing and Formula Renault. He won the dominant title in the Renault Spider championship. Plato also took fifth place in Vauxhall in 2000 and won the championship in 2001. In 2006, he continued in the British Touring Car Championship as SEAT’s lead driver. In 2010, Plato claimed the 2010 M.S.A. Dunlop British Touring Car Championship. This was his 60th win. Plato then raced for the Triple Eight Race Engineering, a United Kingdom team, in 2012 and 2013. He came third in their M.G. K.X. Momentum Racing MG6 in both years. In the 2015 BTCC season, Plato took home six wins, missing out on the title by four points. By February 2019, it was announced that Plato would switch to Power Maxed Racing. After finishing seventh in that year’s championship, he chose not to compete in 2020. Plato is set to join the 2022 BTCC championship as a BTC racer.
Aside from racing, Plato is a co-presenter on the British T.V. Series “Fifth Gear.” He is also an author and released his first autobiography, “How Not to Be a Professional Racing Driver,” in September 2019. Plato keeps his personal life private. He married Sophie Plato in 2006, and they have two kids together.
