Hugh Grant was born in White City, London, England, to parents Captain James Murray Grant and Fynvola Susan MacLean. He comes from a family of empire-builders, warriors, and aristocracy. In fact, his grandfather was decorated for leadership and bravery during the Second World War. His father also served as an officer in a regiment of the British Army in Germany and Malaya. After finishing his services, he began running a carpet firm. His mother, on the other hand, worked as a teacher of French, Latin, and music. Grant was raised in Chiswick, west London. He also has an older brother named James “Jamie” Grant, who works as an investment banker.

Growing up, he first attended the Hogarth Primary School located in Chiswick. Then, he was enrolled at St. Peter’s Primary School, which was located in Hammersmith. Thereafter, he attended Notting Hill’s Wetherby School and the Latymer Upper School, also in Hammersmith. In 1979, Grant received a scholarship to attend New College, Oxford.
