JC Chasez

Background

Joshua Scott Chasez, or ‘J.C.’ Chasez, is a multitalented superstar. He’s a singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, and occasionally dabbles in acting. You may know him from his childhood days in “The Mickey Mouse Club” or as a young adult in the popular boy band, NSYNC.

He was born in Bowie, Maryland, on August 8, 1976, and raised by his mother’s former foster parents, Roy and Karen Chasez. Ron worked as a consultant in a technology company, while Karen was an editor. They raised JC’s biological mother and adopted JC when he was five years old.

Chasez was very shy growing up and would often only dance at home in front of his parents. He eventually added singing to his talent pool to help him with his lack of confidence. Things took a turn when he became a teenager. When he was thirteen, JC signed up for a national talent show as a dancer, and came out as its winner! This completely changed the game for the young boy, because it made him realize he had a knack for performing and loved to sing.

Two years later, his mother saw a casting call in the “Washington Post” for Disney’s “The Mickey Mouse Club,” and thought JC would fit the part. He auditioned with the song “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx, and landed the part as a performer in the fourth season. The show came to an end in 1994, and in his time as a Mouseketeer, he befriended Justin Timberlake, who later turned out to be his bandmate.

In the following year, Chris Kirkpatrick formed the boy band, NSYNC and made JC and Justin its lead singers. In 1998, their debut album, “NSYNC,” was released, selling over 11 million copies worldwide and gaining massive popularity in the US. Their second album, “No Strings Attached,” came two years after that and held the record for fastest-selling album of all time until 2015, with 2.4 million copies sold in the first week. After their third studio album in 2001 and their “Celebrity Tour” in 2002, the band decided to take a hiatus.

While working in the band, JC wrote and produced songs for the group and other artists like Wild Orchid, and continued doing so while they were on a hiatus. He released his first solo single, “Blowin’ Me Up (With Her Love),” in 2002, and his first solo album, “Schizophrenic,” two years after. In the same year, he began working on his second album with Jive Records, “The Story of Kate,” which was set to have features from Timberlake, Timbaland, Dallas Austin, and Jimmy Harry. Due to issues with the label, the album never got released, and JC and Jive Records parted ways in 2007.

After that, Chasez continued to work as a songwriter, with records from artists like David Archuleta, Matthew Morrison, and Backstreet Boys under his belt. In 2008, he became a judge for “America’s Best Dance Crew” on MTV and was on the panel till the show’s end in 2012. In the same year, he formed an all-girl group called ‘Girl Radical’ alongside Jimmy Harry, and in 2016 he made his first major movie debut in the film “Opening Night,” where he played a dramatized version of himself.
