August Alsina

Background

August Anthony Alsina Jr. is an American singer whose talents have set him apart in the industry. He’s a Virgo, born on September 3, 1992, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He’s of African-American descent. Alsina attended middle school in his hometown and was inspired to start singing after watching Lauryn Hill in “Sister Act 2.” He began uploading videos to YouTube in 2007. After Hurricane Katrina, Alsina’s mother moved him to Houston, Texas, for a fresh start. His father died soon after, and he relocated to Atlanta in 2011 to focus on music.

In April 2012, Alsina released his first mixtape, ‘The Product.’ In January 2013, he released the single ‘I Luv This Shit’ featuring Trinidad James. His sophomore mixtape, ‘The Product 2,’ followed in May 2013. In August of the same year, Alsina released his debut E.P., “Downtown: Life Under the Gun.” By April 2014, the singer released his debut album “Testimony.” That year, he was named part of the XXL freshman class. In December 2015, Alsina released his second studio album, “This Thing Called Life.” The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 41K in its first week. The singer didn’t stop here. In June 2020, Alsina released his third album, “The Product III: State of Emergency.” The album detailed his life struggles, from his upbringing to his medical condition. He announced his ‘likely’ retirement from music in September 2021.

Alsina’s personal life is somewhat scandalous. He was romantically involved with Jada Pinkett Smith while she was married to Will Smith. The confirmation of the affair by Jada sent social media into a frenzy. Alsina is currently single, but he’s been involved with, among others, Miracle Watts. Alsina has three adoptive daughters who are technically his nieces. After the demise of their mother, who was Alsina’s late brother’s fiance, he stepped in as their legal guardian and shares his success with them.
