Shane Dawson was born Shane Lee Yaw on July 19, 1988, in Long Beach, California. Dawson is an American YouTuber, beauty influencer, entrepreneur, and author whose easy-going personality has won him dedicated fans worldwide. Dawson grew up in a low-income household and attended Lakewood High School, where he was often bullied for his weight. Dawson is of Irish and Scottish descent. His interest in video making was piqued when he started turning in videos as school projects.

Exploring his interest in video making, Dawson created a YouTube channel called “ShaneDawsonTV” in March 2008. He began creating and posting videos. Dawson’s cultural impersonations were often stereotypical, and he received backlash for it. He created more channels, from ShaneDawsonTV2, later called Human Emoji, a discontinued channel, to Shane, his present main channel. Dawson collaborated with several YouTubers like Trisha Paytas, Miranda Sings, Colleen Ballinger, Joey Graceffa, and others. His career was going great, and in 2010 he was named by Forbes magazine as their 25th most famous web celebrity. Dawson began working on a 30-minute television pilot called “SD High,” which was released in September 2010 on his main YouTube channel. Shortly after this, he debuted his musical venture with the single ‘Superluv’ in March 2012. He released another single, ‘The Vacation Song,’ in June of the same year.

Dawson has witnessed multiple strides in his career. He started a podcast in 2013, directed and starred in a comedy film, and released his memoir “I Hate Myselfie: A Collection of Essays.” He has released extended vlogs, conspiracy videos, and docu-series on YouTube. He appeared in Jeffree Star’s web series, “The Secret World of Jeffree Star,” and “The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star,” where the duo launched their new makeup and merchandise collection, “The Conspiracy Collection.” Dawson has almost 20 million subscribers on his main channel and eight million Instagram and Twitter followers. He’s a celebrated beauty guru, social media influencer, and YouTuber who shares his success with his family. Dawson is engaged to his long-time partner, Ryland Adams, and doesn’t have kids yet.
