Background

Gladys Stewart and Alfred Stewart gave birth to Patrick Stewart on July 13, 1940. Geoffrey and Trevor are his older siblings. Crowley Church of England Junior and Infants School and Mirfield Secondary Modern School were his schools of choice. At Crowley Church of England Junior and Infants School, Cecil Dormand, an English teacher, encouraged his acting talent and persuaded him to appear in Shakespearean plays. Stewart began acting when he was 12 years old, and he participated in local drama groups. He began working for “Mirfield & District Reporter” as a junior reporter and obituary writer at the age of 15 but left when the newspaper’s editor asked him to choose between writing and acting. He worked as a furniture salesperson for a year to save money before enrolling in a theater school and completing an 80-day drama course. He enrolled at Bristol Old Vic Theater School in 1957. A few years later, he made his professional debut at the Lincoln Repertory Theater and then at Manchester’s Library Theater.

He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966 and remained with the company until the early 1980s. He made his Broadway debut in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in 1971 as Snout. He moved to Los Angeles in 1987 and rose to international fame after being cast as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the science-fiction series “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” which aired from 1987 to 1994. His appearance as Professor Xavier in the American blockbuster film “X-Men,” which was released in 2000, won him a lot of attention, and he also appeared in the film’s two sequels. He received requests to lend his voice to comedic cartoon characters in T.V. shows because of his flawless British accent. He voiced characters in animated films such as “Gnomeo & Juliet,” which was released in 2011, and “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” which was released in 2012. Stewart prefers to perform in the Shakespearean Theater, where he was taught, even if he has established himself as a wonderful actor on Broadway.

Stewart married Sheila Falconer in 1966, but the couple separated in 1990. They have a son named Daniel and a daughter named Sophia. On August 25, 2000, he married Wendy Neuss, whom he divorced three years later. Stewart began dating Sunny Ozell in 2008. Their engagement was announced in March 2013, and they married in September 2013.
