Morrison graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1966 with a degree in history. In the same year, he began working at “The StarPhoenix” in Saskatoon. He joined CTV in 1973 and worked there until he moved to the Canada Broadcasting Corporation in 1982. In 1986, he relocated to Los Angeles to join KNBC and moved to N.B.C. in 1988. He returned to CTV in 1992 but was fired in 1995.

He went back to L.A. and joined N.B.C. in 1995 for the second time to host the “Dateline” show. He hosts the show to date, and while he is in his mid-70s, he has no plans to leave N.B.C. He married his wife, Suzanne Perry, in 1981, and they raised six children together. He is Matthew Perry’s stepfather, and he married Perry’s mother when Perry was just 10 years old. Life wasn’t always smooth for him; he once lost his thumb in a woodworking accident. Also, he managed to insult the prime minister of Canada, and the latter canceled a live appearance on a television program.
