Matthew Mercer

Background

Matthew Christopher Miller, or Matthew Mercer, was born on June 29, 1982, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, U.S. He has one brother, a musician named Dave Heatwave. His family moved to Los Angeles when he was young. He attended Agoura High School in California. He took some theater and improv training and began his career performing English walla and doing the voice for Japanese anime. His talent and hard work got him reputed clients such as Studiopolis, Viz Media, and Bang Zoom! Entertainment. He has voiced characters for anime, cartoons, and video games, apart from radio commercials.

Mercer has voiced some of the most iconic anime characters, including Jotaro Kujo of “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure,” Trafalgar Law of “One Piece,” Hit of “Dragon Ball Super,” and was also the second voice of Yamato and Pain of “Naruto.” In the video game industry, he gave life to the voices of Leon S. Kennedy in “Resident Evil 6,” Cole Cassidy in “Overwatch,” Kurtis Stryker in “Mortal Kombat 9,” Anarky in “Batman: Arkham Origins,” Robin in “Batman: Arkham Knight,” and Gangplank (Wolf) in “League of Legends,” to name a few. His talent is globally recognized and he has been invited to several international conventions. He has also hosted Anime Expo and Anime Matsuri. In 2015, he became the Dungeon Master for the web series “Critical Role,” which became a major success by 2019. The cast decided to set up their own production company, Critical Role Productions, where he was made the chief creative officer. The company was acquired by Amazon Prime Video in November 2019.

Mercer keeps his private and romantic life under wraps. In October 2017, he married a voice actress and fellow “Critical Role” co-worker, Huber. The couple resides in Los Angeles.
