Background

Markiplier is the stage name of Mark Edward Fischbach — he was born on June 28, 1989, in Honolulu, Hawaii. His family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where the YouTuber started his career. Markiplier was studying to become a biometrical engineer when he dropped out to pursue a career in the internet world. He created his first YouTube channel in March 2012 and uploaded his first video in April of the same year. In May 2012, his AdSense was banned — he was forced to create another channel under the name “MarkiplierGAME.” Developing sketch comedy videos was the original idea for his platform — when the playthrough videos started becoming a major success among the viewers, he focused on them. The YouTuber mainly focused on creating video games-related content since then — without losing the touch of comedy.

He moved to Los Angeles, California, to be closer to other YouTube personalities and keep growing his career. In 2014, he struck major success with his playthrough video for the game “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” The video was a hit among his fans — today, it has over 100 million views. The video became so popular, Markiplier was invited to do a cameo in one of the games series, “Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery.” That same year, Fischbach was named number 61 among the top 100 best YouTube channels listed on “NewMediaRockstars.”
2015 was a busy year for Fischbach. The star was invited to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” He created Cyndago, a sketch comedy and music channel, along with the YouTubers Daniel Kyre and Ryan Magee. He also co-hosted the South by Southwest Gaming Awards.

Markiplier’s YouTube channel has over 32.4 million subscribers as of 2022. Fischbach’s latest project, a YouTube original interactive film called “In Space with Markiplier,” comes out in April 2022.
