Tobey Maguire

Background

Tobias Vincent Maguire was born on June 27, 1975, in Santa Monica, California to Wendy Brown and Vincent Maguire. More popularly known as Tobey Maguire, he is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood, having begun as a child actor.

Maguire made his acting debut when he was 14 in “The Wizard” (1989). He appeared in commercials and on T.V. shows before being cast as the lead in the television series “Great Scott!” (1992). He got his first major lead film role in “The Ice Storm” (1997). He landed other lead roles in “Pleasantville” (1998), “The Cider House Rules,” (1999), and “Wonder Boys” (2000). He also lent his voice to the animated film “Cats and Dogs” in 2001.

In 2002, Maguire played the role of Peter Parker/Spiderman in “Spider-Man,” a huge box office success. He went on to play the role in its sequel. (He reprised it in 2021 in “Spiderman: No Way Home.”) He played the main role in “Seabiscuit” (2003) and portrayed the antagonist in the film adaptation of “The Good German” (2006). For his performance in “Brothers” (2009), where he played a prisoner of war, Maguire received a Golden Globe nomination. He also co-produced “The Good People” in 2012. His next major film role was in “The Great Gatsby” (2013). Two years later, the actor starred in “Pawn Sacrifice,” a Cold War thriller based on Bobby Fischer. He briefly lent his voice in “Boss Baby” (2017), reuniting with Alec Baldwin after 16 years. The actor started his production company Material Pictures in 2012, which produced “The Violent Heart” in 2020. Maguire also produced the 2022 film “Babylon” starring Brad Pitt. Maguire was married to jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer from 2007 to 2016.
