Background
Michael Lamar White IV, popularly known as Trippie Redd, was born in Canton, Ohio, amidst harsh conditions. His father was sent to prison before his birth, leaving his mother, Tonya White, to raise him alone. Tonya struggled to make ends meet, but this was not enough to keep White off the streets. He got involved in petty crimes from a young age. His mother was a big music fan and listened to Beyonce and Tupac. This made White develop an interest in creating music.
White had an elder brother interested in making a career out of music. However, he died in a car accident, forcing White to take his musical interest seriously. When he was 15, he created his first two songs — ‘New Ferrari’ and ‘Sub-Zero’ and uploaded them online. The songs were successful, but White wasn’t happy with them, so he took them down. Following his high school graduation, White moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he met Lil Wop and found his first breakthrough.
Lil Wop introduced White to the world of rap and music production. White worked on three projects titled “Awakening my Inner Beast,” “Beast Mode,” and “Rock the World Trippie.” The success of these projects allowed White to move to Los Angeles. He signed a contract with Elliot Grainge Entertainment, formerly known as Strainge Entertainment. In 2017, he released his debut mixtape, “A Love Letter To You.” The mixtape debuted at the 64th spot on the “Billboard” 200 charts. ‘Love Scars,’ a single from the mixtape, became a popular hit, earning more than eight million views on YouTube.
