Not much is known about her early years and family life. Yet, we do know after she achieved her high school degree from her local high school, she attended the University of Westminster, where she graduated in 2016 with a B.A. in Marketing Communications. As part of the Erasmus program, she studied in Madrid, Spain, where she got to practice her Spanish. Simkins then began working in Seville, where she qualified to teach English as a foreign language and began working towards her new profession.

In 2016, in her final year of university, she launched her YouTube channel entitled English with Lucy, which provides entertaining, educational videos on the English language. Within the first year, the channel was followed by 100,000 viewers. This was when Lucy decided to focus on turning her YouTube hobby into a full-time occupation. In 2018, she received several followers exceeding one million, and the University of Westminster even awarded her an Entrepreneurial Award for her educational videos.
