Background

Thorgy Thor was born on May 25, 1984, in Ronkonkoma, New York, U.S. as Shane Thor Galligan. She began dressing up as a kid, but it wasn’t until much later that she became a drag queen. She studied music at the University of Hartford Hartt School in Connecticut before graduating from the State University of New York with a Bachelor of Music in both viola and violin performance in 2006. That year, she moved to Brooklyn.

Her first performance-based drag was as Frank N. Furter in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” She then entered and won drag competitions with the name “Shenanigans”, and later as Thorgy Thor. She won the LEGEND award at the 2014 Brooklyn Nightlife Awards. Then, she moved back to New York, working at nightclubs like Sugarland and F.WORD. She won some Glammy awards for her work at F.WORD and ‘SALIVA Tuesdays’ at The Ritz. She had auditioned for “Ru Paul’s Drag Race” since season one and was finally announced to compete on the eighth show season on February 1, 2016. She placed sixth out of 12 overall. That year, she contributed to the album “Christmas Queens 2,” released on November 11. Thor was brought back for the third season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars,” revealed on October 20, 2017, however, she got eliminated in ninth place by season two and three queen Shangela. She also contributed to that year’s Christmas album, released on November 17.

In 2018, Thor created the symphony show “Thorgy and the Thorchestra” with conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, which combines orchestral performances of traditional and modern classical music and contemporary pop songs. She returned to reality T.V. with the T.L.C. special “Drag Me Down the Aisle,” which aired on March 9, 2019, and was expanded into a full series titled “Dragnificent!” which premiered on April 19, 2020. In 2021, she was a guest in the second season of the web series “Purse First Impressions,” and then became a co-host with Bob the Drag Queen in the third season.
