Background

Mike Myers is a household name when it comes to comedy in Hollywood. He is not only an actor but also a comedian, director, producer, and screenwriter. Myers was born on May 25, 1963, in Toronto, Canada. His zodiac sign is Gemini, and his ethnicity is English, Scottish and Irish. He is the son of Alice. E and Eric Myers. He has two older brothers: Paul and Peter. Myers started his career acting in commercials at the age of two.

In the early 1980s, Myers appeared in video shows, such as “City Limits” (1980s — 1990s), where he played the much-loved character Wayne Campbell. He moved to the United Kingdom soon after graduating from high school, as part of The Second Kingdom, a Canadian comedy touring company. There, he helped start an improvisational comedy group called The Comedy Group Players. In 1986, he appeared in a British Children’s T.V show, “Wide Awake Club” (1984 — 1989). Myers soon returned to Toronto and participated in many improv shows, and also appeared as Wayne Campbell in “It’s Only Rock and Roll,” a summer series by the Insight Production Company. He wrote comedy sketches, many of which were directed by Allan Novak.

Soon, Myers started appearing on “Saturday Night Live” and became the first person to appear continuously for two years. He starred in several sketches on the show over many years. His last appearance as a cast member was in 1995 before he returned to host in 1997 and finally appeared as one of his movie characters, Dr. Evil, in 2014. Myers won a Primetime Emmy in 1989 for ‘Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program,’ for his comedy sketch on the show. Myers went on to adapt his SNL sketches, “Wayne’s World” into a movie, and eventually made his film debut with the first film of the series, called “Wayne’s World” (1992), which was followed by a sequel in 1993. He starred in “So I Married an Axe Murderer” (1993), which was a dark comedy.

After a two-year hiatus, he returned to films with the “Austin Powers” franchise (1997 — 2002). He played the hero and the villain in all three films. Myers also did a non-comedic role in “54” (1998), before returning to comedy with the “Shrek” franchise (2001 — 2010). In 2007, Myers won the ‘MTV Generation Award,’ becoming the second Canadian to receive it. He appeared in many other films, playing minor roles in them, his last one being “Bohemian Rhapsody” (2018). He will be returning to acting and producer for the Netflix series “The Pentaverate” (2022), a spin-off to Myer’s film “So I Married an Axe Murderer.”

Myers was married actress-comedy writer Robin Ruzan from 1993 to 2005. He often referred to Ruzan as his “muse” during their relationship. In 2010, Myers married to Kelly Tisdale, a café owner. They have three children. He has played for the Hollywood United Football Club, a celebrity soccer team. In 2016, Myers published his book, “Canada”, about his birth country’s history and popular culture.

Why We Love Mike Myers

  1. He is versatile

Myers has made a name for himself in the field of comedy, and while he has tried his hand in other genres, comedy seems to come naturally to him. He doesn’t let go of any opportunity to crack a joke or come up with a great sketch.

  2. He doesn’t let failures pull him down

His 2008 film “Love Guru,” which he wrote, produced, and starred in, was very poorly received. Myers ended up receiving a ‘Razzie’ award for ‘Worst Actor.’ Despite that, he didn’t give up, and is returning to producing with a Netflix series, “The Pentaverate.”

  3. He loves to experiment

Myers has played non-comedic roles. He was in the 1998 film “54,” and will be playing a yet-undisclosed role in an upcoming David O. Russell film, which is speculated to be a period film. Despite the 1998 film not doing well at the box office, Myer’s performance was appreciated.
