Background
Robert Clark Seger, better known as Bob Seger, is an American singer and songwriter whose talents have set him apart in the rock niche. He’s a Taurus, born on May 6, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan. At age five, Seger moved to Ann Arbor with his family. His father, Stewart, was a medical technician at Ford Motor Company who played several instruments during his downtime. Segar was exposed to music at a young age. When he turned 10, his father left the family and moved to California, causing the family to struggle financially. Seger attended Tappan Junior High School and graduated from Pioneer High School in 1963.
In 1961, Seger arrived on the Detroit music scene with a three-piece band called The Decibels. While in high school, he played the guitar, keyboard, and piano for the band and was also a vocalist. The Decibels disbanded shortly after, and he joined the Town Criers before moving on to The Omens. From here, Seger created Bob Seger & The Last Heard, which was signed to Capitol Records in 1968. The band’s name was changed to The Bob Seger System. The band released their debut studio album, “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man,” in 1969, and it peaked at number 62 on the Billboard pop albums chart. In September of the same year, the band released their second album, “Noah,” which failed to chart. The album’s failure made Seger quit the music industry and attend college. In 1970, he returned to release the band’s third album, “Mongrel.” After the System’s disbandment, Seger released his debut solo album, “Brand New Morning” (1971). The album failed commercially, and Seger left Capitol Records. He then joined Teegarden & Van Winkle but left to create a new backing band. He formed the Silver Bullet Band in 1974 with Drew Abbot, Charlie Allen, etc. With this band, he released “Seven” (1974) as his seventh studio album. He followed this with “Beautiful Loser” (1975) and “Live Bullet” (1976) before his commercial breakthrough with “Night Moves” (1976). His 1980 album, “Against the Wind,” became his first and only number-one album on the Billboard albums chart. The album won two Grammy Awards and sold five million copies in the U.S.
Before going on a ten-year sabbatical, Seger released his “Greatest Hits” album in 1994. In 2006, he released “Face the Promise” as his first album in 11 years. After 18 studio albums, six compilation albums, and two live albums, Seger announced his final tour on September 18, 2018. He’s a highly successful musician whose personal life is under wraps. Seger married Renee Andrietti in 1968, and they divorced the following year. He then married actress Annette Sinclair in 1987, but they divorced the following year. Seger has been married to Juanita Dorricott since 1993, and they have two children together.
