Background

Jerome Allen Seinfeld, better known as Jerry Seinfeld, was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 29, 1954. His interest in comedy started in childhood, stimulated by his father, Kálmán Seinfeld. In 1976, after graduating from college, he started to present his stand-up comedy shows in local clubs, making humorous comments about everyday life. His career had a breakthrough after his appearance on “Rodney Dangerfield H.B.O. Special.” From there, Seinfeld became a more frequent figure on T.V. shows and won a role on the sitcom “Benson,” but was abruptly fired after four appearances. After that, the comedian decided that he would only return to another sitcom if he had full control over the production.

In 1989, the opportunity to create his television show finally came. N.B.C. hired Seinfeld to create a sitcom alongside his friend and fellow comedian Larry David. Together, the two created the series “Seinfeld,” in which Seinfeld played a character based on himself. The series became a massive success with audiences and critics. Many of the show’s catchphrases have become embedded in American popular culture, making Seinfield a series of unprecedented successes. The show ran for nine seasons and had its last episode aired in 1998.

After the end of the sitcom, Seinfeld returned to New York to make his stand-up comedy comeback. The artist hit the road with a tour that went through several clubs and theaters in the U.S., which was documented in the film “Comedian.” Years later, Seinfield would co-write, co-produce, and voice the bee Barry B. Benson, the protagonist of the animated “Bee Movie.” In 2020, Netflix announced Seinfeld’s first original stand-up special in 22 years, “23 Hours to Kill.” The show premiered on the streaming service on May 5.
