Background

Colson Baker, or Machine Gun Kelly, is famous for his unique style of rapping. Baker was born on April 22, 1990, in Houston, Texas, U.S., into a family of English, Scottish, and German descent. His parents were missionaries, and during his initial years, he traveled a lot with them. His father, James Colson Baker, struggled with depression and unemployment, while his mother, Sonia Alane, left them when he was nine. Following that, Baker and his father relocated to Denver, where they lived with his father’s aunt. Other kids in the area bullied Baker because he was poor. He began listening to rap when he was in sixth grade.

He released four mixtapes between 2007 and 2010, before signing a contract with Bad Boy Records. He later released his debut studio album with them. “Tickets To My Downfall,” his fifth studio album, was released in 2020. With this, he blended hip-hop with pop-punk and gave the industry a new horizon to explore. It was the only rock album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 that year and featured the single, ‘My Ex’s Best Friend,’ which reached number 21 on the Hot 100.

Baker has a history of substance addiction. He smokes cannabis regularly and is open about this. He has even made numerous references to cannabis in his lyrics and rap. Baker was also a heavy user of cocaine and alcohol. In November 2020, he revealed that he was seeking treatment for his addiction to Adderall. In his teenage years, he was in a relationship with Emma Cannon, who gave birth to his daughter, Casie Colson Baker, in July 2009. He was in a two-month relationship with model and actress Amber Rose in April 2015. He began dating model Sommer Ray in March 2020; however, they separated the following month. In the 2021 Billboard Awards, he received the Best Rock Artist Award. Currently, he is engaged to Hollywood actress, Megan Fox. They started dating in May 2020, while filming “Midnight in the Switchgrass,” and announced their engagement in January 2022.
