Ashton Dumar Norwill Simmonds, known professionally as Daniel Caesar, was born in Toronto, Ontario on April 5, 1995, to Hollace and Norwill Simmonds. Of Jamaican descent, he was raised in Oshawa and sang in the church choir. His father was a pastor and a gospel singer. In 2012, he left home to pursue a career in music after graduating from high school.
