Quavo Marshall

Background

Quavious Keyate Marshall, better known by his stage moniker Quavo, was born on April 2, 1991, in Athens, Georgia in the U.S. He is one of the founding members of the iconic rap group Migos. As a teenager, Marshall was a talented quarterback and had a promising future in football. But his passion for music superseded his talent for the sport. He decided to drop out of Berkmar High School to form the hip-hop trio Migos with his nephew and cousin — that is, Kirshnik (Takeoff) and Kiari (Offset), respectively.

Marshall has released and has been featured in singles that have topped the U.S. music charts. The trio’s debut hit ‘Versace’ reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013 (with music stars like Drake and Justin Bieber gushing about it on social media). Drake later collaborated with the rap group to create a remix of the song. Marshall began his career as a solo artist with a succession of hits, among them, his single ‘Bad and Boujee,’ which topped the Billboard chart in the U.S. Migos released its first-ever mixtape called “Juug Season” in 2011. It was followed by another mixtape titled “No Label.”

In 2013, the group released a mixtape titled “Y.R.N.” shortly after its track became a hit. Several publications such as “Complex,” “SPIN,” “Pitchfork,” and “Rolling Stone” praised Migos’ mixtape for having the proper amount of rap variety and ranked it among the top 50 singles and albums of the year. Its two albums, “Culture” and “Culture I,” both debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2017. They were certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (R.I.A.A.).
